Blank template
You start with a clean structure and add rows, positions, and modules yourself.
Choose it when: you want to learn the editor from scratch or have a precise custom design.
Shared template
You choose a visible community foundation and create an independent copy from it.
Choose it when: you find a layout close to your goal and mainly want to change appearance and content.
AI template
You describe the website type, style, layout, colors, and other options; the system prepares a new design.
Choose it when: you don't have a suitable community foundation, but can briefly describe the expected result.
A simple decision rule
First, check the gallery. If you find a structure that is nearly right, a custom copy usually saves the most time. If you need an unusual combination and have the AI feature available, generate a new design from a precise prompt. Choose a blank foundation when you want to decide on every position yourself or really master how a Joomla template works.
None of the paths creates a complete content website
The editor designs the Joomla template, its positions, sample modules, and appearance. It does not create real articles, products, user accounts, or menu items for the target website. You manage these items in Joomla after installation.
